Lillith had been among these people long enough to notice when something out of the ordinary had happened. Such a thing was Vax leaving dinner and returning with the very pretty young blonde woman named Stephanie, when she believed he had long since been in love with Keyleth. What she knew of Vax made that even more extraordinary.
She might assume that anyone Vax would bring to a family dinner could be trusted. Certainly she trusted Kash's friends implicitly, but she had asked him, also, what she intended to ask Vax when she called him aside briefly, after dinner had been served.
"I would not wish to take you from your guest, but might I speak with you a moment?"
