At least he died doing the thing that mattered most to him, Kash thought, but didn't say. There really wasn't much 'at least' when it came to the person you loved dying because of you.
It probably also wasn't going to help to say that he'd have wanted to die if he failed her, although it was how Kash would've felt.
"I'm sorry that happened to you. It's shit, and there's not a goddamned thing I can say that's going to change that." Which was the only reason he could think of later that he kissed the top of her head.
