She did, and being drawn in for an embrace, Curnen placed herself so her ear was near his heart. Why that was a soothing sound she didn't understand, so much as it was the warmth and life of another person.

She started to sing then, quiet. The dialect was different, but "My Love's in Germany" was right. For Brushy. He had not gone to war, but he had been so terribly brave for her and stood up to impossible odds when he called out Rockhouse. Overpowered and overrun. It was the final verse that brought things into sharp focus, though.
